With the drop in temperature and fall upon us, there is no better time to experiment with this season’s trends. Last March I had the opportunity to attend several fashion shows, as well as view them on live-stream comfortably at my desk (thanks to www.fashionweekdaily.com). Unlike past years, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the runway was buzzing with very “wearable” trends.
The Moto Jacket: Made a return again this season. It has become the “go to” jacket for transitional weather and a closet staple. This season you will see a multitude of versions, an array of colors, cropped, color blocked and even unique details like embroidered options.
How to wear it: The moto jacket is an essential piece that is very versatile. It can be worn with denim, a lace dress, silk jumper, pencil skirt or even an elegant cocktail dress. I’ve seen it and it can be done! There is really no wrong way to wear this jacket.
The Athletic Sneaker. Yup, you read it right! Your feet can be happy as designers have declared sneakers the footwear of the moment. Like spring, we are seeing a return of athletic sportswear. For fall, sneakers are getting glam with glittery embellishments, metallic leathers, and thicker soles. You can still wear your platform sneaker.
How to wear it: It’s completely acceptable to wear these with your denim as well as cute causal skirts and jumpsuits.
Fur, Fur and more Fur: Fur is pretty inevitable for Fall/Winter fashions. This season designers experimented with color, new shapes and adding design motifs.
How to wear it: If you are a lot like me, you could wear fur anywhere and anytime in all shapes and colors. However, if you do not prefer the real deal, faux fur options have never been cialisfrance24.com better.
Leopard Prints: This animal print showed up everywhere on the runway. It was presented in very ladylike silhouettes that can be donned in the office or on weekends.
How to wear it: Make sure your look is sophisticated and elegant, stay away from cropped tops, ultra minis and tight fitted dresses. The idea is to show the skin, not show off your skin! If wearing a loud print is not your thing, try it in an accessory like a clutch or shoes.
Plaid: Plaid has made a huge resurgence this season and not just for the preppy or the lumberjack er lumber-jill . This timeless print is getting a fresh new look with modern silhouettes. If you head into a department store, chances are high that you will see plaid in every shape and form from casual tops to dresses, handbags, coats and even shoes.
How to wear: The print can be a bit overwhelming and over power your look. To simplify try wearing a plaid shirt with denim or toss a scarf over your all black ensemble. Care to go bold? It’s fashionably acceptable to even throw on more than one plaid, just make sure the colors are within the same tone.
Wrap Coats (aka Robe Coat): Simply chic and very flattering. This is a transitional piece more for fashion less for warmth. The collar on these coats can be overwhelming, so purchase one in a simple color such as black or camel. This will ensure that you are wearing the coat and the coat is not wearing you! Put one on and channel your inner Hugh Hefner.
How to wear it: Streamline and team with thin turtleneck, slim cut trousers or skinny denim. This coat can be worn day or night, paired with a heel or flat.
Over the knee boot: This boot style was flying low on the radar last year however know they are all over the street. Many shoe designers incorporate a version into their Fall/Winter line. This trend is for the fashion daring individual!
How to wear it: If you want to ease on into this trend pair your boot with the same colored tights, skinny denim or legging. The key is to make sure your undergarment/pants are tight fitting and fabric is not bunching at the top of boot. If you are a bit more daring (not for the faint-hearted), wear with a skirt and show a bit of leg. This is a statement and a very sexy look.
Color Trend: This season’s color combinations are not typical for fall hues. Pastels (mint green, pedal pink and light purple) are very on point, as well as Sangria (think red with deep pink undertones, shown in my jumpsuit) and Aluminum (strong grey). Rounding out the color for the season is the reoccurrence of royal blue.
How to wear it: Designers are representing pastels in UNTYPICAL pieces such as outwear and coats that is ultra feminine and modern. Keep the rest of your outfit basic with more familiar seasonal hues such as black, grey, camel or brown.
Jumpsuit: One of the biggest trends for the fall and another pick up from the spring is the jumpsuit. This season the silhouette is tailored with an emphasis on the waist which might include a belt or a tie. Unlike the spring where we saw jumpsuits in floral patterns, now is the time to purchase one in a solid color. The jumpsuit comes in two different styles, the tapered leg and the wide leg. Choose the one that suits best for your shape.
How to wear it: The jumpsuit is a perfect substitute for the little black dress, its fun and unexpected. Wear it with a bootie and a moto jacket for a cool hipper look. Pair with a tailored blazer and heels for a retro 70’s feel.
